Coupler Lock

The Problem

Leaving your trailer parked comes with the risk that someone simply mounts it to their own vehicle and drives off. The client had looked at available locks on the market and found them too easy to defeat.

Our Solution

We designed a two-part enclosure that completely encases the trailer coupler and removes the access a thief needs to operate it. The lid and base lock together around the coupler, and the continuous, rounded surfaces leave no exposed edge, fastener, or flat for a tool to grip, pry, or wrench. The locking point is drawn into the form rather than left on the outside, so it cannot be attacked directly. The result answers the specific weaknesses the client had found in the locks already on the market.

Built on Collaboration

We developed this lock in close collaboration with the client, combining their understanding of where existing products fail with our background in manufacturing methods and rapid prototyping. Each round of prototyping tested the design against the specific weaknesses they had identified, so every change earned its place by making the product harder to defeat, not just better looking.

Carried Through to Production

A strong design only matters if it survives manufacturing. The offshore manufacturer received complete, accurate documentation and we stayed responsive throughout production, answering questions promptly so the design was built as intended rather than reinterpreted on the factory floor. That diligence is what keeps a resolved concept intact all the way to a finished product the client can sell with confidence.
